Verizon IndyCar Series
Race Preview: Grand Prix of Long Beach
Logo_DHL Ryan Hunter-Reay, No. 28 DHL Honda

  • Has eight previous starts on the streets of Long Beach with one win (2010) and three front row starts (2010, 2011 and 2013)
  • Will host Racing for Cancer’s first Long Beach edition of The Yellow Party on Friday at The Federal Bar
We’ve started off the season with some decent momentum after our runner-up finish in St. Pete. We’ll be looking to capitalize on that this weekend at what is one of my favorite  race events on the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule, the 40th Long Beach Grand Prix. The No. 28 DHL Andretti Autosport team has run very strong here in the past but it will be extremely tough to put another solid weekend together at this challenging circuit. Scoring maximum points early and often in the season is our top priority. Hopefully we can make it on the prestigious list of repeat Long Beach winners.”

Carlos Muñoz, No. 34 Cinsay Honda
  • Won the Long Beach Indy Lights race in 2013
  • Was the highest qualifying rookie in St. Pete, just missing the Firestone Fast Six to start in seventh

“I’m really happy to head back to Long Beach. I have a great memory from 2013 – I won that race in Indy Lights with Andretti Autosport. It’s one of my favorite tracks, so I’m excited to start after, I think, a positive weekend in St. Petersburg, besides the final result. I’m really looking forward to getting there and starting the weekend!”
United Fiber & Data James Hinchcliffe, No. 27 United Fiber & Data Honda

  • Captured first career podium on the Streets of Long Beach in 2012
  • Has two top-four finishes in three previous Grand Prix of Long Beach starts
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Long Beach. I have loved that event since my first time there in 2006. We have a lot of firsts there in Indy Lights and IndyCar with myself; last year wasn’t our best time there. The United Fiber & Data crew and I are looking forward to getting back and trying to redeem ourselves because it is a track that has treated us well, and we want to go back and try to bounce back from a rough weekend in St. Pete.”

Marco Andretti, No. 25 Snapple Honda
  • Recorded a career best finish in Long Beach of sixth place (2009) in five previous starts
  • Has made 134 straight race starts, ranking him 13th on the all time list for consecutive starts

“The Grand Prix of Long Beach ranks second on my win list, next to the Indy 500. It’s such an important event with so much history, and I want to add my name to the list of winners. With my dad’s first and last career wins coming at Long Beach, and my grandfather’s three wins, it’s important to our family that we keep it going. I hope to be a contender for the Snapple team this weekend.”
